The Competition español / françóis / português
Emphasis shall be placed on rewarding cities which have adopted policies, legislation, strategies and measures for prevention, treatment and punishment of acts of violence against women and girls in the public and private spheres, and increased women’s participation in community development and decision-making at the local government level.
The Competition will award six municipalities, three in Latin America and three in the Caribbean.
All six will participate in the award ceremony related to UN-Habitat’s celebration of the World Habitat Day 2007 in Mexico, in October 2007. 10 of the best experiences per region will be part of an exhibition shown in several cities throughout the continent. Additionally, the award includes the support from UN-Habitat/ROLAC and the Safer Cities Programme to two of the winning experiences, one in Latin America and one in the Caribbean. The support consists of providing technical advice during a one-year period, to strengthen the local experience and to prepare it for a scaling up process aiming at generating greater impacts and benefits. |
